Augers are at Work

(Galveston Daily News, February 8, 1901)

Sabine, Tex., Feb. 6--There are five derricks being rigged preparatory to boring for oil in the vicinity of Gladys City, near the Lucas well, 25 miles north of here, on the Texas and New Orleans Railroad. In addition to these proposed immediate borings, rigs are bein operated as follows: one in the northerly portion of the Burton league, about 28 miles northeasterly from here; two near the center of the David Burrell league, about 22 miles from here; and one on the John J. French league, near Taylor's Bayou, 18 miles from Sabine. Three rigs have been shipped to High Island and are to be operated there. Oil in goodly quantity is said to have been found in one of the wells being bored on Hillebrandt's Bayou (Paulhamas' well). (comp. by Block)
