Prospecting in Hardin County

(Galveston Daily News, February 14, 1901)

Olive, Tex., Feb. 12--Since the oil geyser was struck in Beaumont, there has been more capital turned loose in this county in the way of prospecting for oil. Oil fields in this county have been discovered for more than 30 years, but have never been developed. Now since it has been proven that oil underlies this Eastern country, it will be only a very limited time until wells will be sunk over the entire county.

Mr. C. S. Pyle, representing one of the strongest oil combines, is here in the city spending a week with a view of obtaining leases. He has already made quite a number and is meeting with considerable success. He seems to think that the prospects in this immediate vicinity are the best we have ever seen in the county. (comp. by W.
