Prospecting in Orange County

(Galveston Daily News, February 28, 1901)

Orange, Tex., Feb. 27--The parties who leased a portion of the Magnolia rice lands at Terry have commenced setting up their derrick. machinery is on the ground, and they expect to begin sinking a well within a few days.

The Orange County Prospecting Company was advised today that machinery has been shipped and work upon a derrick a short distance from town will begin next week. There are several new oil men here and a few new leases have been effected this week, and others are in a fair way to become contracts at once. Land owners are cooling down some, and as those trying to lease lands are inclined to fix the date for boring too far ahead, proprietors prefer to wait for others who may be in position to do something promptly.
